No. 9AS Shortstop Automatic Shutoff Valve
for use with Maid-o-Mist No. 66, 67, and 78 Auto-Vents

The No. 9AS Shortstop is an Automatic Shut-Off that saves hours when changing out Maid-O-MistŪ vents with 1/8inch male connections. This accessory is a spring-loaded shut-off that stops the flow of water automatically when the vent is removed, and re-opens when a new Maid-O-Mist vent is installed. With a Shortstop in place, it is no longer necessary to drain the system to switch out vents.
Saves time, saves money
The Shortstop automatic shutoff valve makes changing air vents in a hot water heating system a quick and simple procedure. Installed between a water pipe and a Maid-O-Mist No.66 or No.67 air vent, the spring-loaded Shortstop automatically shuts off the flow of water when the old air vent is removed. When the new air vent is installed, the Shortstop automatically re-opens to provide unobstructed venting.
The Shortstop shutoff is designed for use with either of the two most popular Maid-O-Mist air vents --the 2-5/8inch high No.66 vent and the 3-3/4inch high No.67 vent. Both vents have a 1/8inch I.P. male connection and are rated for 50 pounds pressure.
Note: Maid-O-Mist cannot guarantee the Model 9AS Shutoff valve will work with air vents other than the Maid-O-Mist No. 66 and No.67 units, because of the different connection lengths on other vents.
![]() With a Shortstop valve installed in a Maid-O-Mist No.67 air vent, water can flow around the extended valve mechanism into the vent. When the air vent is removed from the line, the 9AS mechanism automatically retracts to shut off the flow of water. |
Three ways to replace an air vent in a hot water heating system:
The Difficult Way: Drain the system. Then, replace the vent. Finally, refill the system. You know how long this can take.
Another Difficult Way: Let the system cool down. Then remove the old vent and try to install the new vent while the water is squirting out. You know how messy this can get.
- The Easy Way: Install Shortstop valves between the water pipe and the air vents. Then, when an air vent has to be changed, remove the old vent and replace it with a new vent. That's all there is to it.
